Yesterday I learned of the existence of flash cookies (aka local shared objects) which somehow had evaded my attention until now. Flash cookies seem to be very similar to the usual HTTP cookies, except that they can store more information (up to 100kb by default, instead of 4kb for HTTP cookies).
Flash cookies are independent of the browser's normal cookie settings and are not blocked by by tools like CookieSafe. It seems that the only way to view flash cookies is by visiting Adobe's Setting Manager web page.
This is an excerpt from Jochen's blog.
